It is not hard to explain the name TANAH BROADCAST; ‘Tanah’ means ‘earth’ (Malaysian). It is the earth that broadcasts.
Tanah Broadcast is a selection of musicians currently active in Holland set down the focus on the African continent. The sub-sahara music traditions are the main influence of the music created by Ferdy Karto’s (vocals and guitar) group. The former Cabubu singer, being an Indo-European with an Austronesian heritage, unites his energy with a group of kindred spirits, creating a sense-tickling vibe, injected with hip-shaking rhythms and exquisite melodies. Listen to the songs from ‘Noné’ by TANAH BROADCAST. Enjoy!

DRIFTKIKKER is a musical collective led by Daddo, whose iconoclastic songwriting avoids established paths and clichés. From its inception, Driftkikker has introduced a new musical style through the deft fusion of contemporary sounds with a love for jazz. Riding an experimental edge while still soothing through sound, DRIFTKIKKER’s sophomore album, D-Time, stamps this new musical style with directness and honesty.

Name Explanation
Contrary to what the name suggests (driftkikker is Dutch for “someone impulsive”), the music is quite cool, groovy, and relaxed. When asked, Daddo replied with a smile, “Due to my temperamental and somewhat volatile nature I have been called driftkikker many times but music is my remedy.”

Members & Guests
Elliott Randall (guitar), whose distinctive sound and guitar solos on Steely Dan’s Reelin’ In The Years and the motion picture Fame have entered music history.
Praful (sax, flute, and melodica), whose number one US hit Sigh from One Day Deep reached Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Top 10.
René Dissel (bass), who played with Toots Thielemans and Within Temptation.
Emil Kunto (accordion from Mala Vita), who worked with Gambit from Manu Chao and Mano Negra.
Randy Winterdal (bass), who is a frequent choice of Izaline Calister, Steve Bridgewater and Ronald Snijders.
Milos Dimitrijevic (seasoned session musician), who has played and schooled many of the Dutch greats.
Nelson Latif (cavaquinho and seven-string acoustic guitar), a Brazilian cultural ambassador.
Wes Maebe (sound engineer to Sting, Chaka Khan, The Kooks, and Roger Waters), who mastered the record.
John Kakiyai (drums) session musician worked with Glenda Peters, Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), Nippy Noya, Hans v. Eijk (former Jumpin Jewels), Jim Vodegel (Vertigo).
Nenad Radosavljevic aka Ned (bass) owner of this web site (click for Ned’s bio)

Today Sunday, March 2, 2008 Jazzy Lounge the Station where Driftkikker landed on the 21 place of the top 25 chart with Babylon Philosophy is upgrading it’s broadcast format from 32kbps/mp3pro to 64kbps/mp3pro.

The sound quality for the casual Jazzy Lounge listener with the mp3pro plug-in will be upgraded from FM to CD.

Genres being eliminated from weekday rotation will be ambient, dance, most house, trip-hop, hip-hop and some electronica. Jazzy Lounge is aiming for a jazzier, funkier mix- more nu jazz, acid jazz, lounge, smooth jazz, downtempo, funk jazz, jazzy house and chill out.

Among wich “Misty Basement” and “Little Mystic” sticked out. We especially enjoyed meeting up with “Mala Vita” a folk punk rock band, memorably great bunch of people!

Marianne Fortuin, for Hart van Holland wrote:

Striking because of original music was the band Driftkikker. When asked for the origin of their name Daddo the singer/songwriter and gitarist of the band said: “We all three are not particularly impetuous but rather emotional. Fortunately we get along very well with each other and agree with the direction where we want to take our music to.”

You can check the photos of our performance at the media section.

When I got the Driftkikker CD in my postbox, I thought in the first place that I had to review a Dutch hardcore punkband. Nothing could have been more further from the truth. “Coming of the light” is very relaxed album with trip-hop, jazz and rock influences.
The tracks are composed and produced by audiovisual artist Daddo from Leiden. He sings/raps over a base of swinging beats, creative programming and ambient sounds. Whole has enough sharp edges and original angles to avoid established paths of the “Lounge”. The number “What” was already selected for mixtape by Mercedes Benz and I think that more tracks of this alternating album will find their way to compilations…
